Most Common Types of Hair Loss in Men

Hair loss occurs in two thirds of men, but the process of going bald isn't always the same. Although they all fall into the 'male pattern baldness' category, there are three different types of progressions. Here are the main three...

Thinning Hair

Losing up to 150 hairs daily is perfectly normal, however, it does become an issue when the amount exceeds that. While it's not particularly noticeable at first, it can however become a real problem. An overall thinning is more common in women, but also in men. This is when the top of the scalp experiences thinning, evenly throughout. As the hair gets thinner, the scalp gradually shows more and more, until it eventually leads to full baldness.

Receding Hair Line

Perhaps the most common form of hair loss, it occurs in 65% of men by the age of 45. This pattern starts with gradual receding at the frontal hairline, eventually leading to thinning on the crown, and in many cases, full baldness. This is usually a slow process, but cases vary, and so sometimes it can be quick.

Patchy Hair Loss

Often caused by stress, bad diet and illness, this type of hair loss can happen suddenly and should be handled with caution. Patchy hair loss is usually a temporary form of baldness, but it can be long term, so you should see your doctor about it before committing to any treatments.
