MOVEMBER: HELPING MEN LIVE LONGER

From humble beginnings in Australia in 2003, the Movember movement has grown to be a truly global one, inspiring support from over 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world.

Movember's success can largely be attributed to the strength of the global community. Regardless of the city in which we live, we're part of something bigger, united by a commitment to help change the face of men’s health.

The Movember Foundation receives a ranking of 49 out of the top 500 non-governmental-organisations around the world.  Movember funds three-part series ‘Man Up’, for the Australian television network, ABC. The program tackles gender stereotypes, the pressures of manhood, and most importantly why so many men are driven to suicide.

640,000 people tune in for each episode – sparking conversations across Australia and the world.
In the USA, the ‘Making Connections’ programme is delivered across 16 sites. The $6M initiative connects men and boys within their communities to promote resilience across generations – working in particular with boys and men of colour, military members, veterans, and their families.

Participating countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA

5,295,657 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas since 2003 (and counting)

Yep, it's that time of year again, folks. It's time to put those razors down and man up for Facial Hair Season, all in aid of a great cause, of course.

The lead up to Christmas is a big time in the male grooming calender, with numerous events and sponsorhips working together with the public to raise funds for men's charity and research. Here, we bring you the complete guide to Facial Hair Season, so get involved and start raising some cash for some worthy causes...

October - Shave Season
Ok, so we understand that not every man has been blessed with the genetics to grow a full on beard, but Facial Hair Season isn't just about the fuzz. If you're partial to a bit of wet shaving, then get involved in Shave Season and be in with a chance of winning some great prizes...

November - No Shave November
With a $30 donation, good-hearted, clean-shaven individuals can register to enter the challenge. It begins with a date-stamped "before" picture posted on the event Facebook page and ends with a wild and wooly "after" shot. At the annual Beard Bash in Nashville, prizes are awarded and a No Shave November is crowned. All proceeds go to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

November - Movember
The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising £402 million and funding over 1,000 programmes focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

December - Decembeard
Campaigning during the month of November is known as 'Movember' where men grow moustaches to raise awareness for prostate cancer; 'Tashes for Testicles'. Beards for Bowels helps raise awareness for bowel cancer by growing beards all year round but mainly campaigning each December... 'Decembeard'.

IT'S FACIAL HAIR SEASON... GET INVOLVED!

The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer - October is finally here, which kind of cements the fact that summer is well and truly over.  For the male grooming industry though, the autumn months of October and November represent one thing - Facial Hair Season! This is the time of year when the men's grooming sector does nothing but thrive.

Facial Hair Season consists of a cluster of beard and moustache related fundraising events that include Movember, No Shave November (Noshember) and Bearded December (Decembeard).  Millions of men take part in these fundraising events to help to raise money for charities such as Cancer Research. The whole season is generally good fun and all for such a worthy cause.

If you're one of the millions of men taking part in Facial Hair Season this autumn then don't forget to assemble a good set of beard and moustache products to get the very best out of your fuzz. For a unique range of beard and facial hair care products to set you on your way this Facial Hair Season, take a look at the Beard Care Department by Your Next Remedy. A full review of the new Raging Bear beard line will be coming soon.

MOVEMBER: EVENTS IN THE UK

One of the Movember’s great draws and undoubted reasons for success is the community feeling that is brewed by the contributors and participants.  Unlike all other charities and initiatives, Movember actively ensures that all contributors demonstrate their charitable side on their face for everybody to see, creating a sense of togetherness.

This community spirit best manifests itself as the month of Movember draws to a close and a wide range of official and unofficial events and parties take place. The organisers understand that this community spirit is a driving force that builds the success of the charity and strives to best utilise this.

Gala Partés are held up and down the country by certified Movember members that celebrate the month of upper lip hair growth and the men behind the moustaches.  Movember contributors that raise £80 or more are entitled to a free ticket to any of these events, giving them that little bit more incentive to contribute great amounts to the charity.

As well as DJs, dancing and celebrations the Gala Partés will be giving out a number of awards to the individuals that best represent the spirit of Movember. The prestigious awards – Ultimate Mo, Lame Mo, Team Mo, Mo Bro and Mo Sista, Best Mo in Character, Miss Movember and Man of Movemberrepresent the ultimate achievement in mo growth.

If you unfortunately live far away from all of the official Gala Partés then it may be preferable to attend one of the thousands of unofficial parties. Student unions, pubs and groups of friends all around the country will be sharing their moustache growing secrets and showing off their upper lip hair.

There is a great selection of Movember partners around the UK offering all kinds of deals and incentives for Mo Bros. Kings Barbers Club operates 14 different barber shops in the Midlands and is running Movember events throughout the month.  As well as offering a free shave to all Movember participants on the 1st of the month, the Kings team have registered their own team of mo growing contributors.

Alongside the parties, the Movember team have also organised ‘Mo Running’: a fun run where participants are stretching their legs for charities. The runs are being held throughout the month in a number of the UK’s cities from Greenwich Park to Glasgow Green. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can participate and raise even more money for charity.

All of the events ran by the Movember team are held in the same spirit as the organisation of the charity – fun and funky but with an overriding good intent and conscious philanthropy.
