FRAGRANCE OF THE WEEK: BVLGARI MAN EXTREME

With its unique and vibrant construction, Bulgari Man Extreme is a new expression of modern charisma. A fragrance that melds intense and long-lasting Mediterranean freshness with sophisticated woodiness.

BVLGARI MAN EXTREME is announced as very elegant, deep, attractive and intense. It excites with its composition starting from the first note and luminous accords of pink grapefruit and Calabrian bergamot. Citrusy notes are combined with cactus zest, which contributes to charismatic opening of the composition and highlights on the floral-spicy heart. After citruses and cactus zest, white freesia blooms surrounded with cardamom from Guatemala and gently warmed with amber. Elegance in base notes is accentuated with Haiti vetiver, Laoese benzoin and Balsa wood.

Olfactory Family: "White" Woody Fresh
Top Notes: Pink Grapefruit – Calabrian Bergamot – Cactus Sap
Heart Notes: White Freesia – Guatemalan Cardamom – Vegetal Amber
Base Notes: Balsa Wood – Haitian Vetiver – Laotian Benzoin

MITCHELL JOHNSON INJECTS THE 'COOL' INTO CRICKET

We just love a major sporting event here at The Male Grooming Review, and although cricket isn't one of our preferred choices of sport, we couldn't let the world cup pass us by without mentioning one of its grooming gems - Mitchell Johnson.

The Australian fast bowler certainly knows how to look ridiculously cool in the most edgiest of ways, and with seemingly little effort, it seems. A man that can pull off a handle-barred moustache goes down in grooming folklore, as far as we're concerned. With his clean cut image and neatly groomed hair coupled with his modern tattoos, the 2009 ICC Cricketer of the Year is our Best Groomed Player of the Cricket World Cup 2015

THE LONDON SCHOOL OF BARBERING: UK'S LEADER IN BARBERING COURSES

How would you feel if I said you could get a trendy haircut or shave for free at one of the most funky barber shops in Europe’s most dynamic city? See here. I could not quite believe it myself when I first heard about The London School of Barbering, arguably one of the best male modern hairdressers in the UK, offering a free of charge service in one of their vibrant salons. If you live in the city with a big focus on men’s fashion and style, where a vast number of men take pride in their appearance, the news spreads quickly. And not only that…

Intrigued and curious, you have booked your first appointment online and arranged a suitable time before walking in to the busy salon in Covent Garden. Being rather partial to a spot of luxury hospitality, you notice the inviting and classically themed cushioned red armchairs complimenting the modern wooden finish of work tops and mirror frames. You are warmly welcomed and looked after by master barbers and talented trainees. The spirits are high and you quickly get hooked on the charismatic nature of the place. Time passes by freely. The level of professionalism and attention to detail has not dropped by a single notch. You are finally ready to go with a sleek, feel good haircut. Perfectly groomed and thrilled to bits, you come to the realisation that you had been served by an exclusive group of ambitious barbers with top class skill sets for the price of a “Thank you”.

THE FOUNDATION TO SUCCESS

So, what makes London School of Barbering (LSB) so successful? There are a few factors that place LSB in a league of its own, in terms of quality of courses, techniques and methods that will make your free haircut an unbelievably comfortable experience.

One of the main points is the academy’s focus on its goal – teaching the art of barbering. LSB wouldn’t be any different if it wasn’t for their drive to prepare aspiring students for ‘hands on’ work in the fastest and most efficient way possible. The aspirants know their tools and strengths and quickly gain confidence to take on even the most precise or complex of tasks - be it a cut throat shave or creating the latest 1920s inspired look. Quite simply, LSB demands the highest standards of male grooming and resultantly produces job ready experts with exceedingly high rates of competence and employability. What’s more, it keeps newly graduated barbers in the loop of male grooming trends, keeping them flexible, adaptable and highly skilled individuals within a hugely competitive trade.

The second factor that makes London School of Barbering stand out is their exclusive, one-on-one approach to teaching. What are the benefits? The learning process is more intense and students are not left out with little to no attention at the back of the class. They interact directly with the experienced trainer who helps the novice excel in developing a unique style of execution, and for me personally, this kind of approach gives me so much confidence in the whole process as the client.

"Possibly the best haircuts in London.
Certainly FREE haircuts"

One of the most important aspects of putting the London School of Barbering at the pedestal is that they create the environment of stress free learning. LSB believe they can bring out the best in people that are willing to develop in a trade they find enjoyable, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It really is no wonder the course places are being snapped up so quickly, gathering students from all over the world.

AN EXCELLENT HAIR CUT FOR FREE!

The London School of Barbering has a team of like-minded leaders based in London’s heart of hairdressing creativity – the west end. They recognised that many existing barbers lack the knowhow of wet shaving and utilising more advanced techniques for hair cutting and styling. This is why I would seriously consider LSB for my very first classic wet shave experience. Having it free of charge, performed under the scrutiny of one of the most sought after wet shave experts, with no risk of skin cut and minimum irritations, it’s an ultimate win-win situation.

Layering, tapering, texturising, modern finishing or traditional wet shaving, you name it, the London School of Barbering has got it covered. Without a doubt, the entrepreneurial founders of LSB have created a bespoke factory for premium barbering masters and a fantastic platform for punters to grab a high-quality haircut without spending a penny.

THE OSCARS 2015: BEST GROOMED CELEBRITIES

February 22nd 2015 marked the most relevant annual event in the movie calender - The 87th Acadamy Awards, AKA The Oscars. While many movie fans were watching on in anticipation to see which actors, films and directors would be scooping up the prestigious awards, The Male Grooming Review kept a keen eye on which attendants particularly stood out from a grooming aspect. Here, we take a little look at some of our favourite groomed celebrities from The Oscars, 2015.

DAVID BECKHAM: THROUGH THE YEARS OF A HAIRSTYLE ICON

When it comes to hair styles, there hasn't been a celebrity quite like David Beckham. The former England superstar has been through more hair styles than most of us have had hot dinners, and no matter how ridiculous some of his cuts have seemed, Becks just seems to have a face that'll pretty much suit any style you throw at him.

Here we take a look back at some of David Beckham's most iconic hair styles over the years, from his baby faced Manchester United days right through to the 2015 rugged and ready look.

1996 - The Baby Face

It all started so innocently for Becks at the beginning of his career, but while his team mates were sporting the short back and sides look, David was already standing out from the pack with his long, finely hanging locks.

1998 - The Curtains

1998 saw the worst moment of Beckham's career with that infamous sending off against Argentina at the world cup. But for those of us who cared more about his hair than his footballing skills, this was also the year when Becks sported his first iconic hair style - the blonde curtains.

2000 - The Shaved Head

The most dramatic change of David Beckham's hair styles came when he grew tired of his blonde locks and shaved them all off in one go. And before we knew it, the 'skinhead' theme instantly became the biggest hair trend across Britain.

2001 - The Mohican

Becks made a minor alteration to his hair style back in the early noughties and revealed his new mohican look at a press conference before England's world cup qualifier away to Greece. The mohican didn't last long though...

2002 - Bleached and Textured

As cool as it was, Beckham's bleached and messy hair style didn't last very long either, despite the publicity it gained during the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

2003 - The Alice Band

We'll always remember this particular year for the flying boot episode, but lest we forget Becks had a pretty decent hair style too. If there's one man that can make an alice-band look cool, then it's Becks himself.

2003 - The Braids

The braids came, they travelled to South Africa, and then they disappeared...forever, it seems.

2004 - The Ponytail

Yet another hair style that only Becks could pull off. The ponytail should have been David's biggest disaster yet, but it ended up being a hair styling masterpiece. It was perfect for his famous summer move to Real Madrid.

2005 - Super Long

Ok, so even though he still managed to pull off this monstrosity of a hair do, the super long Viking hair wasn't one of Becks' finest hours. Still, fair play to the guy for having the balls to give it a try.

2006 - Groomed and Contemporary

A very groomed and contemporary David Beckham hit our screens in 2006. With a tidy hair style and a clean(ish) shave to match, surely Becks hasn't ever looked this clean cut.

2007 - Cropped and Bleached

Becks celebrated his lucrative transfer to LA Galaxy with a very short and bleached hair style. It certainly made him stand out more in the MLS - not that he needed any further promotion.

2012 - The Comb Over

Before long, Becks went from tidily groomed to ruggedly scruffy. As the facial hair grew longer, the hair styles became more erratic. This wasn't Beckham's finest moment in the hair styling world, but it certainly paved the way for his best style yet...

2014 - Classic Gentleman

Classy, sophisticated and contemporary. Approaching 40, you could argue that David Beckham has never looked as good as he does now. If you're looking for the ultimate grooming style, then take a note out of David Beckham's book.

THE REAL MAN RANGE BY THE HANDMADE SOAP COMPANY

The Handmade Soap Company was founded in 2010 by Donagh Quigley and Gemma McGowan. Things have changed since the days in their cottage kitchen, ladling the ingredients themselves, until the early hours of the mornings. Now, the Handmade Soap Company products can be found anywhere from Blarney Castle to Brazil.

The Handmade Soap Company kindly sent us their full collection of men's grooming products - The Real Man Range - that consist of shaving essentials for the skin, body and hair. So, without further ado, here's what The Male Grooming Review thought about this classic men's grooming line...

THE PRODUCTS

The products themselves are brilliant. From the packaging to the actual formulas, this collection has got it pretty spot on. It is clearly evident that time and care has been given to the branding of this range. The packaging is classic yet quirky, with a modern twist that gives it that relevant look and feel. In fact, we'd go as far as to say this men's grooming range is packaged better than most of the other brands of its kind that come through our doors for review every week.

THE ADDITIVES

We're pleased to say that the additives in this Irish home-made range are very good. Each product is free from SLS, petrochemicals and parabens, and not tested on animals. From looking at the ingredient lists, the formulations make plenty of sense and have a clear aim of targeting the essential benefits of the face, hair and body. When a product is made from natural ingredients, it really does convey the belief of the brand. When it comes to grooming and beauty products, The Male Grooming Review always suggests going down the natural avenue where possible.

THE APPLICATION

If it's a refreshing scent and soft texture that you are after, then The Handmade Soap Company collection is a must try for you. Suffers of skin irritations such as shaving rash, rosacea and acne could benefit from using this innovative range, due to its natural properties and soothing formulations. The aftershave cream and facial balm are two excellent products that help repair skin damage caused by the vigorous effects of a razor. The scent of the whole men's line remains consistent - a scent that can be described as a cross between a zesty peppermint and a light fruitiness. This is definitely a range suitable for the gentleman that likes to avoid the more traditional and heavy woody aromas from their beauty products.

The moustache wax in this line was particularly impressive. With a silky, distinctive texture and scent, this buttered wax contains a touch of citrous, making it a rather more unique product of its kind in comparison to its more woody counterparts. If you're looking for a moustache wax that isn't over powering and breaks away from the typical rules of convention, then this little gem is a definite must try. You'll love it!

The full range of The Handmade Soap Company men's products consist of the following:
  • Real Man's Soap
  • Shaving Soap
  • Moustache Wax
  • Shaving Puck
  • Aftershave Lotion
  • Aftershave Soothing Cream
  • Shaving Dish (including soap)
  • Body Lotion
  • Body Wash
  • Complete Shaving Kit
We'll bring you more feedback on the rest of this excellent range once we get a chance to go through them all. In the mean time, if you're keen to find out more about this innovative range of grooming products, then head on over to The Handmade Soap Company today - www.thehandmadesoapcompany.ie
